‘A’ Class 3 X 4 minute rounds

Elbows allowed to the torso and limbs whilst standing.

Throws and takedowns are allowed, with the exception of throws; such as a vertical suplex, which causes the recipient to land directly on top of his/her head.

Most locks and armbars are allowed, with the exception of heel-hooks, violent neck cranks (can opener allowed – a slow pull on the neck), spine manipulation, any cross-face techniques which place stress on the neck.

Small joint techniques are forbidden, to clarify, a small joint is the wrist, fingers and toes.

When on the ground, head strikes are forbidden, this includes if only one fighter is on the ground. A fighter is designated as being on the ground when a minimum of one knee or hand is on the ground. When both fighters are engaged in grappling, knees, elbows, punches to the torso and limbs are allowed. Dropping elbows are allowed, but not to the back or neck.

Smothering, such as placing the hand over the mouth, nostrils or both is forbidden.

Equipment
Approved MMA gloves, gum shield and groin guard. Hand wrapping is at the discretion of the chief referee, promoter or approved “UCS Promotions” person.

Decisions
Knockout (10 second count), tap, withdrawal or judges decision. A judgement is decided by the following factors: aggression and/or skill.

Referee, Format and Card System
Referees will interfere when there is inaction or inability, fouling or unsportsmanlike behaviour. If during an upright clinch, shoot, or similar technique within which the fighter(s) look like they are going to fall through the ropes, the match will be stopped, the fighters separated and restarted from the upright position. Referees will also move combatants to the centre of the ring should the ground-fight move under the ropes. The fighters will place themselves in the same position there were prior to the referee calling a halt. Competitors attempting to gain an advantage during this movement may be penalised.

Warnings
There are three forms of warnings. In hierarchical order they are:
Quiet or Personal Warning, which occurs there is an accidental infringement of the rules that cause no harm. The fighter is taken to one side and the infringement is pointed out.
Public Warning, which occurs when there is a similar accidental infringement of the rules after the Quiet or Personal Warning has been issued. Or a technique that is out-with those sanctioned has been used and has caused the opponent to be hurt but not injured. The referee will raise an index finger at the judges table and clearly state ‘Warning’, whilst also pointing at the offender. This will result in a one point deduction from the offender’s scorecard.
Yellow Card, which is used as a follow on from the above warnings, or if an opponent uses a technique that is out-with those sanctioned has been used and has caused the opponent to be injured and either seek medical attention or rest. The referee will stand in front of the offender and hold the Yellow card above his/her head, then turn and show the card to the judges table. This will result in a two point deduction from the offender’s scorecard.

Disqualification
Red Card, which is used to show a disqualification. It is used as a follow on from the above warnings, or if an opponent deliberately or continually uses a technique that is out-with those sanctioned has been used and has caused the opponent to be injured and either seek medical attention, rest or be unable to continue. The referee will stand in front of the offender and hold the Red card above his/her head, then turn and show the card to the judges table.

In the event of a disqualification and if a purse is awarded then the following rules apply:
1st round a loss of 50% of the purse
2nd round a loss of 30% of the purse
3rd round a loss of 20% of the purse
